Slander is a false statement about someone which could harm their reputation in some way. A slanderous statement must be false in a way that might actually be believed by a reasonable person. So, for example, calling someone "a donkey" -- although literally false -- is not slander. No reasonable person would believe that a human is literally a donkey.
