We use several custom templates which help you to format your contributions to the wiki:
Quote template
This is a template for standardizing blockquotes.
Example:

Notice that the <ref> tag will create an automatically numbered footnote at the bottom of the page.
#scripture function
We use a wiki extension for quoting scripture. It provides the following benefits:
- It standardizes the scripture references (because the translations are stored in a database)
- It makes inserting scripture references more convenient for contributors.
- It allows users to choose their preferred translation [to be implemented soon].
- It makes rendering the wiki into other languages easier and more consistent.
Basic use
So, if you want to quote a scripture passage, you simply write:
As Jesus said, {{#scripture: Matthew 5:17}}
which outputs:
As Jesus said, 17 “Don’t think that I came to destroy the law or the prophets. I didn’t come to destroy, but to fulfill. Matthew 5:17WEB
Adding the scripture reference
If you want the reference listed, you can write:
As Jesus said, {{#scripture: Matthew 5:17|scriptrefstyle=paren}}
which outputs:

Hiding the verse numbers
If you want to hide the verse numbers, use the following:

Selecting a specific translation/version
If you want a specific version (perhaps because the wording is more accurate?), use the following:
As Jesus said, {{#scripture: Matthew 5:17|vsnumstyle=hidevsnum|scriptrefstyle=paren|ver=KJV}}
which outputs:

Scriptblock
The Scriptblock template provides a way to nicely format scripture passages.
Example:

Scriptblockformat
This template allows you to format your scripture quotes in the standard scriptblock style, but it allows you to use any input, not just our local scripture database versions. This is helpful if you want to cite a translation which our site does not host (we do not host any copyrighted scripture translations), and you want it to be formatted in the same style as all the others.
You might not need this template. If you just want to provide a scripture label for one of our hosted scripture versions, then write, for example:

Otherwise, use:

This is also helpful when you are quoting a scripture partially, but want to use the standardized scriptblock format. For example:

28 God blessed them. God said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. ...” Genesis 1:28WEB

Erasesentence
This template erases one or more sentences from the beginning of the first parameter, based upon the number specified in the second parameter (default 1). It will insert the text of the third parameter in place of the erased sentence. Note that the matching algorithm will skip an initial <span> tag, and an initial spanned number (scripture verse), before erasing.
The purpose is to be able to partially quote a verse of scripture, but allow for input from the different translations.
Example:

Erasesentencefromend
This template erases one or more sentences from the end of the first parameter, based upon the number specified in the second parameter (default 1). The third parameter is optional text used to replace the sentences.
The purpose is to be able to partially quote a verse of scripture, but allow for input from the different translations.
Example:

Extractsentence
This template extracts a particular sentence from the input of the first parameter, based upon the number specified in the second parameter (default 1).
The purpose is to be able to partially quote a verse of scripture, but allow for input from the different translations.
Example:

Input: 20 You shall redeem the firstborn of a donkey with a lamb. If you will not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. You shall redeem all the firstborn of your sons. No one shall appear before me empty. Exodus 34:20WEB
Output: 20 ...If you will not redeem it, then you shall break its neck.

Chiasm
This template allows you to create a chiasm structure. Each level of the chiasm is formatted on its own line. The first parameter is the label (e.g. A, B, C'). The second parameter is the indent level. The third parameter is the scripture text.
