Esta era uma regra inventada pelos fariseus, e Jesus estava a permitir intencionalmente que os seus discípulos a quebrassem. Jesus respondeu: {{:Scriptblock|Matthew 15:3-4}} Repare como Jesus repreendeu os fariseus usando a lei bíblica. Ele citou dois mandamentos das Escrituras Hebraicas: o Quinto mandamento (Êxodo 20:12) e um outro mandamento da lei que determina a pena de morte civil por violar o quinto mandamento de uma forma particularmente hedionda (amaldiçoando o pai ou a mãe, Levítico 20:9).<ref>Pena de morte obrigatória por atacar o pai ou a mãe: Êxodo 21:15. Paulo referiu-se favoravelmente a esta lei em 1 Tim. 1:9.</ref> ===Quem é o hipócrita?=== Não vou expor o que Jesus diz a seguir sobre "Corban". Pode ler sobre isto em qualquer comentário e obter uma boa explicação. Basicamente, Jesus está a apontar uma tradição que os fariseus ensinam, que permite que as pessoas desonrem os seus pais. A seguir, diz Jesus: {{:Scriptblock|Matthew 15:7}} Jesus já se tinha referido, várias vezes, aos fariseus como "hipócritas": Mat. 6:2, 6:5, 6:16. Lembrem-se do que Jesus já tinha proclamado publicamente: {{:Scriptblock|Matthew 5:17-19}} Na actual troca com os escribas e fariseus, Jesus tinha acabado de citar os mandamentos de Deus (incluindo o mandamento da pena de morte) a fim de mostrar que eles estavam a "anular" o mandamento de Deus pela sua tradição. Por isso, eis a questão: Se Jesus viesse realmente abolir a pena de morte por amaldiçoar os pais, não seria Jesus o verdadeiro hipócrita, e não os fariseus? ===Um sermão que (provavelmente) nunca irá ouvir=== Nunca na sua vida poderá ouvir um sermão sobre esta troca que Jesus teve com os escribas e fariseus, que fala sobre o apoio de Jesus a esta pena de morte. Podeis ouvir muitos sermões sobre Jesus e a mulher levada em adultério (de João 8), porque essa passagem é mais fácil para os antinómanos perverterem. Mas não se pode tratar Matt. 15,3-5 dessa forma, só se pode disfarçar. Deus deu-nos o Quinto mandamento ("honra o teu pai e a tua mãe") para defender a instituição da família, que é a instituição cultural fundacional da civilização humana. Como diz Paulo, é o primeiro (embora não o último) mandamento com uma promessa: {{#scripture:Eph 6:3|scriptrefstyle=paren}}. Deus deu-nos o Oitavo Mandamento ("não cometerás adultério") para manter o pacto matrimonial, que é o pacto que forma a família. Não é surpreendente que Ele também lhe tenha atribuído uma pena de morte obrigatória: Levítico 20:18. Deus deu-nos o Nono Mandamento ("não dirás falso testemunho") para defender a integridade do sistema de justiça bíblica, que se baseia no testemunho de testemunhas. Mais uma vez, encontramos uma pena de morte necessária para prestar testemunho falso em casos capitais: Deut. 19,18-21. Deus atribui penas civis apenas a um pequeno número dos seus mandamentos. Uma pena de morte civil, ligada a um mandamento, mostra como é importante não o quebrar. Por exemplo, na lei bíblica, se acidentalmente (ou mesmo de propósito, porque estava esfomeado) comesse um animal que fosse cerimoniosamente "impuro", teria de lavar a sua roupa, e seria cerimoniosamente "impuro" até à noite (Levítico 11:40). E é tudo. E não houve aplicação civil desta pena. Se roubasse as ovelhas de alguém, e fosse apanhado, teria de lhe pagar duas ovelhas (Êxodo 22:4). Compare isto com a lei comum britânica, por exemplo, segundo a qual roubar uma ovelha (classificada como "roubo de felonia") lhe valeu a pena de morte. Na lei bíblica, nunca existe uma pena de morte para crimes contra a propriedade. São sempre tratados por restituição ao lesado ("não" restituição ao governo civil). Depois há uma categoria de crimes que são tão ameaçadores para a ordem social e a civilização que Deus ordenou aos humanos que lidassem com eles usando a pena máxima, a morte. Assassinato, violação, adultério, rapto, falso testemunho num julgamento capital, e outros. Um destes outros foi amaldiçoar o pai ou a mãe. Outro estava a atacar o pai ou a mãe. Deus valoriza tanto a integridade da família e o respeito pela autoridade parental que tornou estas violações da família equivalentes a homicídio. Se pensa que a pena de morte por atacar ou amaldiçoar os pais é "demasiado dura", então está a mostrar que o seu sistema de valores não é como o sistema de valores de YHWH. Nem é como o sistema de valores de Jesus, porque ele é YHWH e ele citou este comando com aprovação.
