Jezus był "pod zakonem" (Gal. 4:4) i nigdy nie złamał prawa (Mat. 5:17-20). W przeciwnym razie nie mógł być opisany jako "nie mający grzechu" (1 Piotra 2:22), ponieważ "grzech jest przestępstwem prawa" (1 Jana 3:4). Dlatego możemy zrozumieć to "złamanie" szabatu albo jako:
