It comes as a surprise to many people that there are very few laws about the office of the king in Biblical law. This can be traced to the fact that YHWH was always supposed to be the only king, and human kings were only provided as a form of judgement upon the wickedness of the people for requesting a king "like the Gentiles" (1 Samuel 8). Eventually, YHWH restored his kingship over his people through the person of Jesus Christ.
