Questa era una regola inventata dai farisei, e Gesù permetteva intenzionalmente ai suoi discepoli di infrangerla. Citava due comandi delle Scritture ebraiche: il quinto comandamento (Esodo 20:12) e un altro comandamento della legge che impone la pena di morte civile per aver violato il quinto comandamento in modo particolarmente atroce (maledicendo il padre o la madre, Levitico 20:9).<ref>C'è anche una pena di morte obbligatoria per aver colpito il padre o la madre: Esodo 21:15. Paolo si è riferito favorevolmente a questa legge in 1 Tim. 1:9.</ref> ===Chi è l'ipocrita?=== Per ora, saltiamo quello che Gesù dice dopo su "Corban". Potete leggerlo in qualsiasi commento e ottenere una buona spiegazione. In sostanza, Gesù indica una tradizione che i farisei insegnano, che permette alle persone di disonorare i loro genitori. Poi, dice Gesù: {{:Scriptblock|Matthew 15:7}} Gesù aveva già più volte definito i farisei "ipocriti": Matteo 6:2, 6:5, 6:16. Ricordate ciò che Gesù aveva già proclamato pubblicamente: {{:Scriptblock|Matthew 5:17-19}} Nell'attuale scambio con gli scribi e i farisei, Gesù aveva appena citato i comandamenti di Dio (compreso il comandamento della pena di morte) per dimostrare che essi stavano "rendendo nullo" il comando di Dio secondo la loro tradizione. Quindi ecco la domanda: Se Gesù venisse davvero ad abolire la pena di morte per aver maledetto i propri genitori, non sarebbe Gesù il vero ipocrita, e non i farisei? ===Un sermone che (probabilmente) non sentirete mai=== Non sentirete mai in vita vostra un sermone su questo scambio che Gesù ha avuto con gli scribi e i farisei, che parla di Gesù che sostiene la pena di morte. Potreste sentire un sacco di prediche su Gesù e la donna presa in adulterio (da Giovanni 8), perché quel passaggio è più facile per gli antinomani da pervertire. Ma non si può trattare Matteo. 15,3-5 in questo modo, si può solo sorvolare su di esso. Dio ci ha dato il Quinto comandamento ("onorate vostro padre e vostra madre") di sostenere l'istituzione della famiglia, che è l'istituzione culturale fondamentale della civiltà umana. Come dice Paolo, è il primo (anche se non l'ultimo) comandamento con una promessa: {{#scripture:Eph 6:3|scriptrefstyle=paren}}. Dio ci ha dato l'Ottavo comandamento ("non commettere adulterio") per sostenere l'alleanza matrimoniale, che è l'alleanza che forma la famiglia. Non sorprende che egli vi abbia allegato anche una pena di morte obbligatoria: Levitico 20:18. Dio ci ha dato il Nono comandamento ("non renderete falsa testimonianza") per sostenere l'integrità del sistema di giustizia biblica, che si fonda sulla testimonianza. Anche in questo caso, troviamo che la pena di morte sia necessaria per testimoniare il falso nei casi di pena capitale: Dt 19,18-21. Dio attribuisce le sanzioni civili solo a un piccolo numero dei suoi comandamenti. Una pena di morte civile, legata a un comandamento, mostra quanto sia importante non infrangerlo. Per esempio, nella legge biblica, se accidentalmente (o anche di proposito, perché stavi morendo di fame) hai mangiato un animale che era cerimonialmente "impuro", dovrai lavare i tuoi vestiti, e sarai cerimonialmente "impuro" fino a sera (Levitico 11:40). Questo è tutto. E non c'era un'esecuzione civile di questa pena. Se hai rubato le pecore di qualcuno e sei stato catturato, dovrai restituirgli due pecore (Esodo 22:4). Confrontate questo con la common law britannica, per esempio, secondo la quale rubare una pecora (classificata come "reato di furto") vi ha fatto ottenere la pena di morte. Nella legge biblica non c'è mai la pena di morte per i reati contro la proprietà. Si tratta sempre di restituzione alla parte lesa (''non'''restituzione al governo civile). Poi c'è una categoria di crimini che sono così minacciosi per l'ordine sociale e la civiltà che Dio ha ordinato agli uomini di affrontarli usando la pena ultima, la morte. Omicidio, stupro, adulterio, rapimento, falsa testimonianza in un processo capitale, e altri. Uno di questi altri era maledire il padre o la madre. Un altro stava colpendo il padre o la madre. Dio dà così tanto valore all'integrità della famiglia e al rispetto dell'autorità parentale da rendere queste violazioni della famiglia equivalenti all'omicidio. Se pensate che la pena di morte per aver colpito o maledetto i genitori sia "troppo dura", allora state dimostrando che il vostro sistema di valori non è come quello di YHWH. Né è come il sistema di valori di Gesù, perché lui è YHWH e ha citato questo comando con approvazione.
