No es sorprendente que también le haya impuesto la pena de muerte: Levítico 20:18. Una vez más, encontramos la pena de muerte requerida por dar falso testimonio en casos de pena capital: Deut. 19:18-21. Dios impone penas civiles a sólo un pequeño número de sus mandamientos. La pena de muerte civil, ligada a un mandamiento, muestra lo importante que es no romperlo. Por ejemplo, en la ley bíblica, si usted accidentalmente (o incluso a propósito, porque estaba hambriento) comía un animal que era ceremonialmente "inmundo", usted tendría que lavar su ropa, y sería ceremonialmente "inmundo" hasta la noche (Levítico 11:40). Luego hay una categoría de crímenes que son tan amenazantes para el orden social y la civilización que Dios ordenó a los seres humanos que se ocuparan de ellos utilizando la pena máxima, la muerte. Asesinato, violación, adulterio, secuestro, dar falso testimonio en un juicio con pena de muerte, y otros. Uno de estos otros fue maldecir al padre o a la madre. Otro golpeaba al padre o a la madre. Dios valora tanto la integridad de la familia y el respeto a la autoridad paterna que hizo que estas violaciones a la familia equivalieran a un asesinato. Si piensas que la pena de muerte por golpear o maldecir a los padres es "demasiado dura", entonces estás demostrando que tu sistema de valores no es como el sistema de valores de YHWH. Tampoco es como el sistema de valores de Jesús, porque él es YHWH y citó esta orden con aprobación.
