In den beiden Hauptschriftstellen, die die zehn Gebote "aufzählen" (Exod. 20 und 5. Mose), sind mehr als zehn normative Sätze enthalten. Tatsächlich ist es möglich, die "zehn Gebote" in mehr als zehn Gebote (vielleicht bis zu vierzehn) zu unterteilen, wenn man sie in einzelne normative Sätze aufteilen wollte. Versuchen Sie das einmal, und Sie werden sehen, wovon ich spreche. Doch traditionell sind die Gebote in zehn Gebote unterteilt. Die Juden teilten sie auf eine Weise auf. Die Katholiken und Lutheraner teilten es anders auf. Andere protestantische Gruppen teilten es noch auf andere Weise. ==Verschiedene Gebotsmotivationen/Erklärungen == Wie ich bereits erwähnt habe, gibt es zwei Hauptpassagen, in denen die Zehn Gebote vorgestellt werden: Exod. 20 und Deut. 5. Jeder Christ sollte sich die Zeit nehmen, die beiden verschiedenen Passagen zu vergleichen, nur um die (geringfügigen) Unterschiede zwischen den beiden zu sehen. Zwischen diesen beiden Passagen gibt es keine unterschiedlichen Gebote. Die gleichen Gebote, abstrahiert zu den zehn diskreten Prinzipien, finden sich in den folgenden Passagen (ich folge der typisch protestantischen Einteilung/Nummerierung): # Du wirst keine anderen Götter haben vor JHWH: Exod. 20:3, 5:7. # Ihr werdet keine Götzenbilder machen und sie anbeten: 2. Mose 20,4-5; 5. Mose 5,8-9. # Ihr werdet Gottes Namen nicht vergeblich gebrauchen: 2. Mose 20,7; 5.Mose 5,11. # Ihr werdet des Sabbats gedenken/bewahren, um ihn heilig zu halten: Exod. 20:8-11 ("gedenkt"), 5:12-15 ("bewahrt/bewahrt"). Verschiedene Motivsätze angegeben. # Du wirst deinen Vater und deine Mutter ehren: 2. Mose 20,12; 5,16. # Ihr werdet nicht töten: 2. Mose 20:13, 5:17. # Du wirst keinen Ehebruch begehen: Exodus 20:13, 5:17: Exodus 20:14, 5:18. # Ihr werdet nicht stehlen: Exodus 20:14; Deut. 5:18: Exodus 20:15, 5:19. # Sie werden kein falsches Zeugnis ablegen: Exodus 20:15, 5:19: 2. Mose 20:16; 5:20. # Ihr werdet nicht begehren: 2. Mose 20:17 ("Haus" kommt vor "Frau"), 5:21 ("Frau" kommt vor "Haus"). Wie Sie aus der obigen Liste ersehen können, gibt es einige Formulierungsunterschiede, aber die Unterschiede sind entweder oberflächlich oder in der unterstützenden Sprache angesiedelt (wie die Motivklauseln). Diese Unterschiede tragen einfach zu unserem Verständnis bei. Es gibt keine Meinungsverschiedenheiten zwischen den Versionen. ==Eine dritte Liste der Zehn Gebote?== Die moderne kritische "Gelehrsamkeit" verbringt ihre Zeit damit, Wege zu finden, die Thora in verschiedene Autoren, Redakteure<ref>Ein schickes Wort für "Herausgeber", Zeiträume und Motivationen aufzuteilen. Eine der Früchte dieser Dummheit ist der sogenannte "Ritualdekanalog" (den sie in Exod. 34:11-27 verorten), der eine andere Version der "zehn Gebote" sein soll. Moderne Gelehrte - die der göttlichen Inspiration des Textes nicht verpflichtet sind - werden behaupten, dass diese Liste der Gebote zu einer anderen Zeit, von einem anderen Autor/Redakteur und zu einem anderen Zweck als die uns bekannten Zehn Gebote verfasst wurde.
