Elle est directement opposée à la Théonomie, une vue qui comprend que le Dieu YHWH est la seule source transcendante de la loi. Soit nous vivons selon les lois de Dieu, soit nous (l'humanité) inventons des lois au fur et à mesure. Il n'y a pas d'autre norme ultime de justice; aucun autre législateur transcendant. Tout système de gouvernement qui n'est pas basé sur la loi de Dieu est un système inventé par l'humanité. Quels que soient les mérites ou les problèmes que nous pouvons y percevoir, il s'agit simplement d'une construction arbitraire de l'esprit humain. De plus, parce que la loi de Dieu est la norme transcendante et la définition de la justice, tout écart par rapport à celle-ci est, par définition, injuste.
